State Arts Council Update From ArtsGeorgia:

Gov Deal has signaled he intends to change the structure of the membership of the state Arts Council.
There was minimum discussion at the recent members meeting with no details or suggestions by the council or staff*, This change is not included in the new 5-year strategic plan, and the arts community hasn’t been consulted.
  • ArtsGeorgia has drafted legislation to address a restructure including best practices from other states. (Link below)
  • ArtsGeorgia’s proposal retains diversity, promotes independence, adds consultation with the state arts community, includes council in budget preparation and encourages internal leadership. Please review & comment; your opinion is important.
  • ArtsGeorgia will post updates on details of Gov. Deal’s proposal for restructuring the Arts Council when announced.
