The Coalition for Racial Equity in Atlanta Theatre is excited to announce that applications are now open for the first round of Sow & Grow Grants!
Sow & Grow grants are for African American/Black, Indigenous, Asian, Hispanic/Latinx, Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian contributors to the metro-Atlanta theatre community. In this first round of funding CREAT will be awarding nine grants– four in the amount of $1,500 and five in the amount of $800.
Sow & Grow Grants are seed investments in Atlanta’s theatre artists of color. Artists can use these unrestricted funds for anything that will nourish and develop their art or themselves. This includes, but is not limited to a workshop reading of a play, paying for additional classes or training, or other project related expenses. However, in this industry and country, we often neglect that which is most necessary for creativity- rest and restorative self-care. Sow & Grow Grants may be used to fund this as well.
This grant is open to all theatre artists of color, however, 70% of Sow & Grow Grants will be awarded to Black artists. Though CREAT serves both Black and non-Black artists of color, true equity requires a redistribution of power. In recognition of that, and to honor our present moment that demands that we center Blackness, three of the four of the $1,500 grants and four of the five $800 of this first round of funding will go to African American/Black artists.
