The prize is presented by Society 1858, a group of dynamic young professionals who support the Gibbes Museum of Art with social and educational programs tailored for up-and-coming art patrons.
Artists must submit:
- Completed registration form
- Brief artist statement (150 words or less)
- Resume or CV
- Portfolio of work (up to 10 images) including title, date, medium, and dimensions for each work
- $25 non-refundable entry fee
RULES AND ELIGIBILITY
Artists must reside, work in, or be from one of the following southern states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, or West Virginia.
Entries are accepted exclusively through the website 1858prize.org using the SlideRoom submission management program. No late or incomplete submissions will be accepted.
Artists may submit up to ten digital images or video of original artwork. Images must be high resolution (at least 300dpi/1MB).
All artwork must be original to the artist in concept, design, and execution.
Artists agree to grant the Gibbes Museum of Art permission to reproduce their artwork in print or electronic media for the purpose of promoting the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art.
Artists agree to grant the Gibbes Museum of Art permission to list their name and information in an online archive of submissions to the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art. Archive information may include artist name, state, media category, subject/style category, website URL, images of artwork, and title, date, medium, and dimensions for artwork.
Artists must pay a non-refundable $25 entry fee.
No late or incomplete submissions will be accepted.
